About Professor ‘Rotimi Taiwo
Rotimi Taiwo is a Professor of English and New Media Studies at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He started his academic career at Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo in 1995 and later transferred his services to Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in 1997, where he rose to become a Professor in 2011. He specializes in Discourse Analysis, Pragmatics Lexical Studies and New Media Studies and has published over 100 research articles and books in these areas of specialization. His most recent book (c0-edited with Bimbola Idowu-Faith and Simeon Ajiboye) is Transformation of Higher Education through Institutional Online Spaces (2023), published by IGI Global Publishers, Pennsylvania, USA. He is currently editing a book, Sociocultural and Multicultural Meanings in Online Communication, due to be published in the first quarter of 2025 by IGI Global, Pennsylvania, USA.
At different times in his university, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, he had served as the Coordinator of the Use of English; the Editor of his departmental journal, Ife Studies in English Language; Editor-in-Chief, Papers in English and Linguistics (PEL), Editor, Ife Journal of the Humanities and Social Studies (IJOHUSS) and the Head of the Department of English.
He currently serves in the Editorial boards of Linguistik Online (Germany), International Journal of Language, Society and Culture (Australia), Journal of Education, Language, and Ideology (Hong Kong), Covenant Journal of Language Studies, (Ota, Nigeria), EKSU Studies in Language and Literature (Ado Ekiti, Nigeria), Obitun, Journal of the Faculty of Arts, Ekiti State University (Ado Ekiti, Nigeria), Oye, Journal of Language, Literature and Popular Culture, Federal University, Oye Ekiti, and CLAREP Journal of English and Linguistics (C-Jel). He also edited Journal of English Scholars Association of Nigeria (JESAN).
Professor Taiwo is an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow at the University of Freiburg, Germany. He was also a Visiting Professor at the University of Munster, Germany, as well as Covenant University, Ota and Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye. He has served and is still serving as external examiner to the following universities in Nigeria: the Universities of Ibadan, Lagos, Benin, Jos, Ilorin; Redeemers University, Ede; Osun State University, Ekiti State University, Adekunle Ajasin University, Bowen University, McPherson University, Benson Idahosa University, and Ajayi Crowder University. He also served as a member of the Board of Regents (The University Council) of Landmark University, Omu Aran, Nigeria (2019 – 2022).
Professor Taiwo has been involved in mentoring several young scholars and encouraged them to win grants and post-doctoral fellowships and publish in high impact journals in the field of language studies.
He is married to Yetunde, a fish biologist and they are blessed with two sons. His hobbies are reading, writing, travelling, playing indoor games, such as Scrabble, Crossword Puzzles and Mastermind.
